Fashion has changed

This website started in 2016 as a collection of drawing lines. Once it became clear that there was a pattern, I used the tag “Drawmeister of the Day” to make fun out of the most obvious proponents. Over the years though the trend has clearly shifted to grinding it out, and forced draws went out of fashion. Nowadays you will rather see top players probing a drawn rook ending for 50 moves than trying to force a repetition in the opening. In 99% of the cases the result will be the same, but there is a 1% upside and that is obviously enough to make it attractive. This doesn’t mean that we can ignore the forced variations, they are just much less likely to appear.
